Beeston Regis became the first parish in Norfolk to have its ageing street lights replaced with modern, energy efficient equivalents. The first of the new, low energy, lanterns was installed on Friday 9th August and a further 33 lights were set to be in place by the middle of the following week. Parish council chairman, Mike Knowles, said that with lighting accounting for approximately 40% of the parish’s £13,000 precept it was anticipated that running costs would come down significantly. He also stated that some of the council’s lighting stock was more than 40 years old, inefficient and that the new lights should last at least 10 years before requiring attention.
