There’s something wrong with your computer.

If you should receive an unsolicited phone-call, usually from a gentleman with a pronounced eastern accent and accompanied by quite a bit of background noise, telling you that there appears to be a problem with your computer, then you would be well advised to be a little sceptical.

He will assure you that he is ready to correct the problem and that all that he needs to accomplish this is remote access to your computer and perhaps a password or two.

Two proven methods of dealing with this are:

  1. But I don’t have a computer!
  2. I’m afraid that I am terribly busy at the moment. If you could just leave your phone number then I will call you back later.

Both of these approaches will guarantee an immediate cessation of any conversation.
